The built environment industry is recognized as one of the most dangerous globally, with safety being a paramount concern for companies on a global scale. Ensuring that site workers adhere to workplace regulations and are adequately outfitted with personal protective equipment (PPE) is imperative daily to safeguard them from potential accidents (V3 Smart Technologies, 2024) . V3 Smart Technology's PPE detection system ensures construction site safety with advanced features. It seamlessly detects staff wearing construction gear, regardless of lighting conditions or gear manufacturer. The system goes beyond by offering remote construction site monitoring, providing centralized oversight to managers through a user-friendly platform. Real-time safety alerts for PPE non-compliance enable swift corrective action, bolstering worker protection and enhancing overall safety on construction sites. With this cutting-edge technology developed by V3 Smart Technology, there is significant poten...

Description about Real-Time PPE Detection with Computer Vision and AI (V3SmartTech) I wanted to see how AI is incorporated into civil engineering, so I used gAI (ChatGPT) to search for a topic. I used the prompt "What are some AI technologies used in civil engineering?". ChatGPT gave me a long list of items and one that interests me most was PPE Detection with Computer Vision and AI. With each list of items produced, there was a short overview of how and what each AI does.  With the selected topic, I went on to Google to see if any companies are providing such services to the Built Environment Industry. I came across a company listed website, named V3SmartTech, which provides such a service in this industry.  The company listed website provides the features, functions and process of how this AI works.

Formal Introductory Letter

Dear Professor Blackstone, My name is Edmond Soon, and I am introducing myself as a current civil engineering student at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), having graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) with a diploma in sustainable urban design and engineering. Since my youth, I have been profoundly fascinated by science, especially in understanding the 'hows,' which has fueled my ambition to become a biomedical student dedicated to helping people. Despite my strong desire, my academic results fell short of the requirements. However, this setback guided me towards a new path in civil engineering, where I discovered an alternative means to fulfill my aspiration. Civil engineering empowers me to contribute to society by constructing structures, including shelters, homes, and hospitals, impacting lives through the built environment. Regarding communication, previously in NP, I showcased my active listening skills throughout my term as the Vice President of DE Society. ...

Significance of Communication Skills for Graduates

“Employers identify communication as one of the basic competencies every graduate should have, asserting that the ability to communicate is valuable for obtaining employment and maintaining successful job performance.”  Sherwyn Morreale, Michael Osborn & Judy Pearson,  Professors of Communication (2000) This quote tells us that e mployers emphasize the significance of communication skills for graduates. Proficient communication is seen as crucial for securing employment and excelling in the workplace. Graduates should prioritize refining this skill to enhance their overall professional success. - Edmond and YaoYang
